If we talk about Péter Matl from Mukachevo, Ukraine, we usually add - as a hint to those, who don′t know him - that he is the author of the Monument of the Entry of the Hungarians to the Carpathian basin at Verecke Pass, Ukraine or that he is the author of the Monument of Hungarian National Unity in Ópusztaszer, Hungary. As a sculptor, during the last 20 years, he has been producing mainly public sculptures of wood, stone and bronze.

The new centre of Rovás, the House of Hungarian Presence hosted an exceptional exhibition. Only a single image was exhibited – a very good copy of the Iberian painter Esteban Murillo (1617–1682). The painting was found in a desolate state in Košice, Slovakia; after its renovation, its owner decided to show it to the public in a touring exhibition. The exhibition is open to the public in Košice until 28 November 2017.

At the beginning of the 19th century, lithography was extensively used throughout France. It was accessible and easily feasible, mainly because this technique had the most in common with the most genuine expression in fine arts: pencil and pen drawings. That′s why it was so popular among the magazines of the age.

Until 1870 it was so influential – mainly in political caricature – that it could significantly influence illustrative art, even fine arts as such. Since the artists often made drawings directly on the stone, without any preparation, the unbound sheets or cut-out transparent images have great value.
